Olmstead v. US (1928) Assessment conveyed by Chief Justice Taft Vote: 5-4 Case arrived at Supreme Court by writ of certiorari. Realities:      The proof in the records reveals a scheme of stunning greatness to import, have, and sell alcohol unlawfully. Included were at least fifty workers, two maritime vessels for transportation of the merchandise to English Columbia, a farm past the city furthest reaches of Seattle with a huge underground reserve to store the alcohol, and numerous different stores around the region of Seattle, a kept up city office with officials, secretaries, sales reps, deliverymen, dispatchers, clerks, authorities, scouts, and a lawyer. Olmstead was the main plotter and director of the business. His contributed capital brought him 50 percent of the absolute pay of the organization (said to be more than 2 million/year), and the other 50 percent went to 11 different speculators.      In the primary place of business there were three distinct phones with separate lines for each. Phone correspondence was made all through the city, the homes of the financial specialists, clients, Vancouver, to and from the workplace building and farm.
